Require an Inspection

Do you need a technical inspection?
When we enter into an arrangement with a tradesperson to carry out work on our home we have expectations of the final result. Happily, in the majority of circumstances, those expectations are fulfilled. Even more happily, in some circumstances, the results exceed our expectations.
From time to time, however, we are disappointed. In some cases the work proves to be of a poor standard. For this, there is no excuse and such work - and those who perpetrate it - should be exposed.
In many cases, we experience doubt in ourselves. Am I expecting too much? Am I being too picky? Occasionally, trades people encounter those who had expectations beyond reason. It matters little what was done on their behalf, they will never be satisfied.
It is all a matter of balancing reasonable standards of workmanship and reasonable expectations by the client. It is into this area of potential conflict that the Master Painters Association offers a Technical Inspection Service which is available to the home owner at a reasonable cost. In fact, if your painter is one of our members, there is no cost.
What do you get for your money?
We send an inspector and an observer to your home. They will make a detailed inspection of the finishes, including carrying out any tests that are necessary. They will draw any important issues to your attention. You will then receive a written report through this Association. The report is an expert opinion which you may use to resolve the dispute. That may be in face to face discussion with the painter or as evidence at a legal hearing.
What is the cost of the inspection service?
If your painter is a Member of the Master Painters Association there is no charge for an initial inpection and we will attempt to arbitrate a satisfactory solution for both parties. To receive a written report the cost is $300.00.
If your painter is not a Member of the Master Painters Association, the cost starts from $600.00 + GST. Costs can vary in price depending on the size of the project involved.
How quickly can an inspection be organised?
Normally, within 7 days.
When do I get the written report?
It usually takes about fourteen days. If you need a particularly fast service - just ask us.
Who should attend the inspection?
We encourage everyone involved to attend, you, your painter and your builder (if you have one) but it’s not essential.
Should I tell the painter (builder) that I have commissioned an inspection?
If they are a Member of the Master Painters Association we will inform them that an inspection has been commissioned and invite them to attend the inspection. If they are not a Member of the Master Painters Association, it's entirely up to you. It may encourage them to lift their game if they know they are being inspected.
How do I arrange an inspection?
Simply ring the Master Painters Association on 6287 2793 or use the email request service provided and we will set up an appointment for the inspector.
How is payment arranged?
Inspections are carried out strictly on a payment up front basis. If you wish, you can pay the inspector when he carries out the inspection.
